Public Participation Strategy

Public Participation Strategy

Why are we doing this?:

The Council must prepare and consult upon a Public Participation Strategy which sets out how we will comply with the requirement to "encourage local people to participate in the making of decisions by the Council (including making of decisions in partnership or in conjunction with any other person)".

What do we want to know?:

We are undertaking this survey with local people and other such persons we consider appropriate in order to obtain your views on the preparation of the Strategy.

What we found out:

Whilst the response rate was low, feedback was similar across respondents who felt that the information on the website could be improved in order to provide better access to information about the democratic process, and how the public could become involved in decision making.

What difference has it made?:

In order to address the points raised, we will create a dedicated web page on public participation which will signpost viewers to information such as public speaking, forthcoming decisions, the petitions scheme and scrutiny.

Consideration will also be given on how information can be shared across public buildings such as libraries, satellite offices and leisure centres. Information will be sent to Community Councils advising them where they can view Committee papers.
